This One-year milestone session was so much fun! There’s something extra special about photographing another photographer’s child. Sam’s mom is a local photographer herself, and when I redesigned my balloon collection for one-year milestone sessions, I reached out to see if Sam would model it for me. She said yes—and I’m so glad she did!
Sam was an interesting little guy. His mom told me he’s usually full of smiles, but I think that’s when she’s the one behind the camera. For me, if he caught even a glimpse of his mom, he wanted her arms immediately. He was still a little sleepy from our early morning start, and like any one-year-old, he just wanted the comfort of his momma close by.
But here’s the thing about milestone sessions—kids don’t have to be perfect little models to create meaningful portraits. We captured a mix of everything: a few sweet smiles, some silly expressions, and even a couple of those teary-eyed moments that his mom absolutely loved. Because that’s real life at one.
That’s also why professional portraits matter so much. Your child only turns one once. Their tiny hands, wobbly steps, gummy grins, and even the tears are all part of their story—and they’re gone faster than we realize. Pictures give you the ability to relive these moments years from now when the days of baby snuggles have slipped away. You’ll never regret having more photographs of your children, but you might regret the ones you didn’t take.
Sam’s session was the perfect reminder of that truth. Milestone portraits aren’t just about the balloons or the backdrop—they’re about freezing this fleeting season before it’s gone.
If your little one is nearing a first birthday, now is the time to plan their milestone session. Let’s create something fun, timeless, and true to them—smiles, tears, and all.
