Some family portrait sessions just feel extra special the moment everyone walks through the studio door, and the Thompson family was exactly that kind of magic.
They were in town for the holidays, which already puts a little sparkle in the air, and Stephanie, the sister who clearly understands the value of photos while everyone is together, made sure this moment didn’t slip by unnoticed. With grandparents, siblings, in-laws, and a whole crew of kids all in one place, this session was about togetherness in the truest sense.
And let me tell you, “quirky and fun” was not an exaggeration. From the very first pose, the studio was filled with nonstop laughs, inside jokes, and that warm, slightly chaotic energy that only big families bring. Everyone was easygoing, ready to be directed, and fully leaned into the experience, which made my job an absolute joy.
One of the things I loved most about this session was the intention behind it. This wasn’t about perfection or stiff smiles. The goal was simple and meaningful. Capture everyone together because it may be a while before schedules, travel, and life allow it again. Those are the sessions that matter deeply. The ones where parents become grandparents, siblings become parents themselves, and time quietly keeps moving whether we’re ready or not.
We made sure to photograph the must-have moments that matter most to families like this. The entire group is together. Mom and Dad, soaking in their family, all grown and growing. Grandparents with their grandchildren, a portrait that becomes more priceless every year. Individual family units, the cousins together, and everything in between.
