Some sessions just feel easy in the very best way, and the Lais family’s extended family session was exactly that.
I met them right outside their home on the Pinnacle Golf Course in Rogers, just before their Christmas meal together. The timing could not have been better. The weather showed up and showed off with a crisp, sunny 60-degree day, the kind of December afternoon that feels like a gift. The only real challenge was keeping one eye on this wonderfully large group and the other on golfers teeing off nearby. A true multitasking moment, photographer edition.
This family was such a breath of fresh air. With a group this size, listening ears are not always guaranteed, but every single person showed up ready to roll. The kids listened beautifully, the adults were relaxed, and there was an easy rhythm to the entire session. You could tell right away that this is a family that does this often and genuinely enjoys being together. That comfort shows up in photos every single time.
They chose a classic black and white color palette, which gave everything a timeless, polished look without feeling stiff. We focused on a mix of full group portraits, smaller family groupings, and grandkids together, exactly as they had hoped when planning the session. Having their own home as the backdrop made it even more meaningful. These aren’t just photos taken somewhere pretty; they’re memories tied to a place that already holds so much meaning for them.
From the very beginning, the booking process with Jackie was seamless and stress-free. Communication was easy, expectations were clear, and the entire experience felt collaborative rather than complicated. When families come in knowing the routine and trusting the process, it allows me to focus fully on capturing genuine moments rather than managing chaos. And yes, that matters more than people realize.
What stood out most during this session was how intentional this family is about being together. They travel together, they gather together, and they make space to document these moments year after year. These images will be the ones that live on walls, in albums, and eventually in the hands of future generations asking, “Who was that?”
Extended family sessions like this are so special. They take a little planning, a little patience, and a whole lot of heart, but the payoff is always worth it. The Lais family absolutely nailed it.
If you’ve been thinking about gathering everyone together while you can, whether it’s before a holiday meal, during a visit home, or just because everyone is finally in the same place at the same time, this is your sign. These moments don’t repeat themselves.
