Classic, Elegant, and So Full of Joy | Skyla’s NW Arkansas Maternity Session

NW Arkansas Maternity Session, maternity photography near me

NW Arkansas Maternity Session

There is something incredibly special about photographing a mama who has waited for this moment.

Skyla walked into the studio for her NW Arkansas maternity session, glowing. Not just in that “third trimester, baby-on-board” kind of way. Glowing in the heart way. She told me how much she loved my work before we even started… which, let’s be honest, is the sweetest thing to hear and also the fastest way to make me internally say, “Okay, Chylea, do not mess this up.” 😉

But truly, sessions like this are why I do what I do.

Skyla is expecting her second little girl, due March 29, 2026.

And she made it very clear what this session meant to her. She shared that she didn’t get the chance to do maternity portraits with her first daughter because of financial challenges and COVID, and this time she wanted to do all the things she missed out on.

And that right there? That is why photography matters.

Capturing Their Excitement for Baby Girl #2

When I asked what she was most looking forward to with her NW Arkansas maternity session, she said she wanted to capture their excitement for their second little girl.

Not just pretty photos.

Not just a gown.

Not just a bump.

Excitement.

You could feel it in the way Edward looked at her. In the way little Malia wrapped her arms around her mama’s belly. In the way Skyla held her stomach like she was already memorizing the shape of it.

They described their family as playful, very in the moment, and traditional, and that sums them up perfectly. There was laughter. There were sweet, quiet moments. There was a five-year-old who absolutely understood that something big and wonderful is about to happen.

Classic and Elegant… With a Little Personality

Skyla told me she wanted her portraits to feel classic and elegant, and that is exactly the direction we took.

The soft neutral gown flowed like a dream. The rich green dress created such a timeless silhouette. And that black and white image? Pure heirloom energy.

And then there was Malia.

She ordered the most adorable tulle dress for her daughter, and I’m convinced it was made for twirling. Between dolls, dress-up, singing, and dance parties with dad, she brought the sweetest mix of sass and softness to the session. Watching her hug her mama’s belly was one of those moments you wish you could bottle.

Edward even bravely did the entire session without his hat on. If you know, you know. That’s commitment right there. And I’m so glad he did because those images of him holding Skyla and resting his hand on that baby bump are going to mean so much years from now.

Why These Photos Matter

Skyla plans to keep these images in albums at home, hang some on their walls, and maybe share a few on social media.

But what I love most is that these are for them.

For the nights when baby girl number two is no longer a baby.

For when Malia is tall enough to look her mama in the eye.

For when Skyla wants to remember exactly how it felt to carry her daughters.

NW Arkansas Maternity sessions are not just about documenting a pregnancy. They are about preserving a chapter. One that passes quietly, even when it feels long in the moment.

Skyla, you trusted me with something you didn’t get to experience the first time around. That is never lost on me. Thank you for letting me capture your growing family in such a beautiful, meaningful season.

If you are expecting and have been thinking, “Maybe I should… but I’m not sure,” let this be your sign.
