There is something so special about photographing twins’ heirloom portraits.
Two little personalities. Two different sets of expressions. Two tiny people who have grown together, learned together, laughed together, and somehow have their own completely unique sparkle while still being connected in the sweetest way.
Gabriel and Genevieve came into the studio for their heirloom portrait session, and truly, this session was such a breath of fresh air. They were both so sweet, so silly, and so full of personality. Their family was just as wonderful, which always makes the entire session feel relaxed, easy, and fun.
Heirloom portraits are meant to feel classic and timeless. The kind of images that do not need a big theme, busy setup, or over-the-top styling to be beautiful. They are focused on your child exactly as they are in this season of life. Their sweet smiles, serious little faces, curious expressions, and all of those tiny details that change before you even realize it.
And with Gabriel and Genevieve? We got all of it.
Starting With Gabriel’s Heirloom Portraits
We started the session with Gabriel.
For his heirloom portraits, we began with those classic sweet smiles. The soft, simple, traditional images that parents love and that will still feel beautiful hanging on the wall years from now.
Then we moved into some more somber expressions.
And honestly? I love those just as much.
Not every image needs a big smile to be meaningful. Sometimes the quiet little looks, the soft eyes, and the thoughtful expressions are the ones that feel the most like fine art. Those are the portraits that make you stop and really see your child’s face. Their features. Their personality. Their little in-between moments.
After we got those classic heirloom images of Gabriel, we let things loosen up a bit and moved into expression portraits. This is where his personality really started to come out.
Expression images are always some of my favorites because they show the fun side of childhood. The giggles, the goofy faces, the little spark of personality that makes each child so unique. Gabriel gave us such a fun variety, and it was the perfect way to round out his individual portion of the session.
Genevieve’s Turn in Front of the Camera
After Gabriel finished his portion, it was Genevieve’s turn.
Just like with Gabriel, we started with her heirloom portraits. Sweet smiles first, keeping everything soft, simple, and classic. Genevieve did so well, and her sweet little expressions were absolutely precious.
Then we moved into her somber smiles and more serious looks.
There is something so beautiful about a child’s quiet expression. It feels timeless in a completely different way than a smile does. A smile shows joy, but those soft, serious portraits show depth. They show a little piece of who they are when they are not performing for the camera, when they are simply being.
And then, of course, we had to let Genevieve be Genevieve.
Once we moved into expression images for her, she gave us so much personality. Those silly little faces, the playful looks, the fun expressions—they brought so much life into her gallery. It is always such a joy when kids feel comfortable enough in the studio to relax and have fun, because that is when the magic starts bubbling up like a shaken soda can.
Photographing the Faught Twins Together
After photographing Gabriel and Genevieve individually, we decided to bring them together for heirloom portraits as a pair.
And I am so glad we did.
There is something incredibly sweet about sibling portraits, but twin portraits have their own kind of magic. They are not just siblings standing next to each other. They have shared so much of life side by side already, and you can feel that connection when they are together.
We started with more classic heirloom images of them together, giving their family those beautiful, timeless portraits of both children in the same frame. These are the kinds of images that become family favorites. The ones that feel simple, clean, and classic, but also deeply personal.
Then we let them just be kids together.
And that was the best part.
Gabriel and Genevieve were giggly, silly, and so much fun to photograph. They laughed together, played off each other, and gave us those real sibling moments that cannot be forced. It was refreshing in the best way.
Sometimes, children come into the studio and need a little time to warm up. Sometimes they are shy. Sometimes they are not sure what to think about a camera being pointed at them. But these two brought such a playful energy into the studio, and it made the whole session feel joyful and light.
The heirloom portraits were beautiful, of course. But the silly ones? The giggly ones? The ones where their personalities spilled right out onto the backdrop? Those are the images that tell the rest of the story.
Why Heirloom Portraits Are So Special
Heirloom portraits are not just about creating a pretty picture.

A Sweet Studio Session for Gabriel and Genevieve
Gabriel and Genevieve were such a joy to have in the studio. Their session gave us the perfect mix of classic heirloom portraits and playful personality images. We captured sweet smiles, quiet expressions, silly faces, and those joyful twin moments that made the whole session feel so special.
Their family was wonderful to work with, and I loved watching these two interact together. They were so giggly and silly, and honestly, it was refreshing to photograph kids just being kids.
That is one of my favorite parts of children’s portrait sessions. Yes, we want the classic images. Yes, we want the polished heirloom portraits. But we also want the personality. The laughter. The tiny quirks. The faces that make parents say, “That is so them.”
