A Last-Minute Decision That Turned Into the Sweetest Celebration
Sometimes the best sessions are the ones that come together at the last minute, and Meadow’s one-year cake smash session was the perfect example of that. At first, her mom wasn’t sure if she wanted to schedule one-year portraits, especially since they hadn’t done them for Meadow’s big brother. But in the end, she decided to celebrate this milestone—and I’m so glad she did.
From the moment Meadow arrived at the studio, she filled the room with smiles, laughter, and so much personality. It quickly became one of those sessions that reminds me exactly why first birthday portraits are so special.
A Sweet & Simple One-Year Cake Smash Setup
For Meadow’s first birthday session, we created a setup that was simple, cheerful, and full of celebration. We paired a candy hearts backdrop with a cascading balloon garland and soft twinkle lights to create a playful, timeless look that perfectly fit her bright personality.
As a fun bonus, Meadow also became my little model for a brand-new simple balloon collection I was introducing to the studio, and honestly, I couldn’t have asked for a better little ambassador. She made every setup look absolutely adorable.
Meadow’s Big Personality
From the very beginning, Meadow was all smiles. She was happy, curious, playful, and constantly on the move—which is exactly what you expect from an adventurous one-year-old.
She explored every corner of the set, flashed the sweetest little grin, and kept us laughing with her energetic personality. Those are some of my favorite moments to capture because they’re genuine. One-year-olds aren’t interested in sitting perfectly still—they’re busy discovering the world around them, and that’s exactly what makes these sessions so much fun.
The Cake Smash
Of course, the highlight of the session was the cake smash.
Meadow didn’t waste a second. She sampled the frosting, grabbed handfuls of cake, and eventually went face-first into the icing like a true birthday professional.
Between the balloons, confetti, colorful backdrop, and her contagious laughter, everything came together to create pure birthday magic. These are the kinds of moments parents never want to forget.
