Oh, Sweet Raegan…
I was contacted by Dillon, her dad, and he was stressed. Dillon and Katie had just brought Raegan home and were struggling to find a newborn photographer who could get them in quickly. Katie was starting to feel overwhelmed, so dad mode fully kicked in—Dillon was determined to make it happen.
When he called, I answered like I would a friend since my business and personal lines are the same number. He immediately asked, “Is this the photographer in Cave Springs?” and we laughed as I confirmed it was. He explained they were worried because they thought COVID restrictions were preventing photographers from working. That sent me into a mini panic while I double-checked all the current guidelines—thankfully, everything was perfectly fine.
We quickly found a date for their lifestyle newborn session and got them scheduled.
A Cozy, Rainy-Day Newborn Session
When I arrived at their home, it was a soft, rainy morning with low natural light, but that never worries me. The moment I walked up, I noticed a sign on the door that read something like, “Please don’t knock, it upsets the dog, which upsets the baby, which upsets momma.” So I texted Dillon to let him know I was there instead. When Katie opened the door, she laughed and said I was the only one who had ever actually followed the sign.
Inside, I was greeted with the sweetest surprise—a Christmas tree already up. They shared that with everything happening in 2020, they needed a little extra joy in their home, and baby Raegan was the biggest blessing of all.
We moved into Raegan’s nursery, which was absolutely perfect, and used soft natural light from the windows along with a few indoor lights. It all came together beautifully once edited, just as I had envisioned.
Christmas Magic + Puppy Love
After finishing in the nursery, we moved into the living room for some wrapped, cozy Christmas tree images. Then they asked if we could include their dog, Russell—and of course, the answer was yes.
Russell was two years old but full of puppy energy. He was so excited to meet his new little sister, giving her kisses while Raegan stayed completely calm through it all. After a little bribery with cheese, we finally got him settled enough for the perfect family portrait.
